I once loved a woman, her name was Delia Jones
She lived in the mansion on the hill
In the night she’d slip away
And stay with me ‘til break of day
In my cabin out behind her husband’s mill

When her husband heard the rumors ‘bout what his wife was doin’
He swore to hunt me down and hang me high
With his money power and pride
He had the law on his side
So I lit out on a cold and moonless night

I caught a train from Lenoir all the way to Baltimore
For a year the down town mission was my home
